Why Is Five Page Reflective Essay Topics So Popular
Why Is Five Page Reflective Essay Topics So Popular? The 5-page reflective essay is a standard for all undergraduate composition courses. It has long been recognized as the basic form of a 'reflective' essay. This essay format is just about as old as the four-page thesis statement. That said, there are many great reasons to make a reflection on a reflective essay. The first and most obvious reason is that the reflective essay is a tried and true format that is highly effective for teaching. With this format, students learn a great deal in one great lecture that they would not otherwise be able to accomplish in the course of a semester. One of the reasons that so many school students leave college without having any experience of any kind in writing can be attributed to their lack of exposure to writing. For all of the writing that we do at school, much of it is nothing more than covering a topic in a general fashion with a title. We get straight to the point and are generally vague abou t what is discussed in the process. While students would find that form of writing interesting, it is no way conducive to learning and being a reader. That is why students have been given an escape route by way of the 5-page reflective essay. Because it is such a large topic that is covered in such a quick and concise manner, it is easy to absorb information from the course. There are many reasons to use a five-page reflective essay. One of the main ones is the fact that students tend to use it as a jumping off point to begin the subject of their thesis statement. In other words, after covering some broad topic, students feel that it is time to move on to the main focal point of the class.Students also tend to utilize the reflective essay as an introduction to the actual main idea of the class. Instead of the student starting their topic with a lengthy explanation of their material, the five-page reflective essay provides the students with an outline of the main concepts of the class. With the outline laid out, the student can then move into explaining how the materials will be used in the real context of the class.Part of the usefulness of the five-page format is that it is often used as a part of the college curriculum. Often times students are given the option to take a course in order to understand more about the subject of their choice. In this way, they can get a general idea of the material that they will be dealing with in the classroom. For all of these reasons, the reflective essay is the most popular and efficient format to introduce students to a topic. By the time that the student has gone through all of the introductory material in class, the reflection topic has already provided them with a tremendous amount of background information and insight to the main topic of the class.
